Assoc. Prof.  Dr. Salmah Yaakop

ENTOMA President (2019 – 2020)

Dear ENTOMA members, friends and all,

Thank you very much for this great opportunity for me to lead the Entomological Society of Malaysia (ENTOMA) for the term of 2019-2020.  I am hoping that the newly elected committee members will work together in line with the vision and mission of ENTOMA. Congratulations!

ENTOMA’s Vision:

The Entomological Society of Malaysia (ENTOMA) is recognized as the centre of excellence in sharing and exchanging knowledge for the development and advancement of education and research in Malaysia and abroad.

ENTOMA’s Mission:

Promoting entomological knowledge to the public through close collaboration with local and international entomologists, universities, government agencies, schools, related private sector and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

As we all know, ENTOMA is a professional and Non-Profit Society that has been very active over the years in promoting the importance of entomological knowledgefor the benefit of mankind and the environment. In that regard, we are also very active in providing advisory and support services (based on the expertise of our members) to the individuals, stakeholders, committees, and others who are in need of and have requested for our assistance. Generally, the problems or issues are related to humans and the environment, for example, disease and pest outbreaks, or economic losses involving insect pests.

ENTOMA can also be the right platform for the members coming from various backgrounds and their counterparts to meet up, discuss and share the latest knowledge and information on insects. The ENTOMA platform is not only limited to professionals, but also encompasses the amateur entomologist and anyone else who are interested in insects as a hobby. Together, they may contribute towards building up enduring and significant research and networking collaborations in entomology, for knowledge as well as for leisure in appreciating the beauty and diversity of these creatures. For the general information, the International Symposium on Insects (ISoI) is a prestigious biennial event that is synonymous with ENTOMA, and the 4th ISoI will be held in 2020 as the scientific gathering for the ENTOMA members and others.

For this upcoming event and for our other activities and programmes, as the president of ENTOMA, I would like to welcome all of you to join this society, and sincerely hope that a strong collaboration and great teamwork will be created to strengthen and provide impetus for  ENTOMA push forward into the future.  Thank you.
